The past two days have been very rainy here in South Carolina. The weather reminded me of fall in Detroit. Detroit usually gets a lot of rainy days around October and the air begins to take on a slight chill. I actually like rainy days a lot, but I don't like cloudy days if there is no rain. I still have lot's of things packed away from Detroit and today I rediscovered an old painting. The painting is about 10 years old now and it was during a time when I was doing a lot of xerox transfers on canvas.
You can think of xerox transfers as a simplified silk-screening technique. It can be rather labor intensive cause there is a wait time anywhere from 2-24 hours usually, and after that comes the process of meticulously wetting and removing the paper image from the canvas bit by bit until hopefully all that is left is the ink from the photocopy, now transferred to your canvas. I was also using images of Pam Grier a lot in my work, usually the same images related to the black cinema and black power movement. The painting is a mixed media collage piece on wood, a little less than 18 inches x 24 inches called " Black on Black Crime: We're Not in Kansas Anymore" Below you will find a picture of the painting and a link to some old school Carpenters -just because.
