Well this has been a tragic week for the music arts with two figures passing away. The more prominent being Amy Winehouse and the lesser to a degree Detroit based poet and musician David Blair. I'll start with David. I'm getting so tired of people I have been acquainted with dying. I met Blair years ago when he came to an art show I had at Johanson Charles Gallery in Detroit's Eastern Market. He told me he was a poet and writer. I didn't know him that well, but after that I would see him now and then at Wayne or around Detroit's new center area and we'd always greet each other with a smile. I'm saddened to hear he's passed and so young. Life is short and precious. The Detroit art community is a fairly close knit one, so I am sure his passing will be felt there for a while and among Detroiter's like myself now spread out across the globe.
Everything that could be said about Amy Winehouse has been said all weekend. I'd only like to add that being an artist can be very difficult. I'm sorry that she lost the battle to overcome her issues and problems cause it didn't have to be. It's unfortunate that someone given so much chose to waste their gifts, while some don't have anything at all and still manage to live. Again life is very short and precious. "...vanity of vanities; all is vanity."(Ecclesiastes 1: 2)
