Just wanted to give an update on the portrait I started in April of a friend I met ages ago in college. Of course the foundation was a solid drawing I started in pencil. From there I began by blocking in mid-tone colors as shapes and shadows. The key is not to go too dark all at once since I am working with acrylics. If it were watercolors I would have to start extremely light. The great thing about acrylics and oils is if you mess up, you can always start over and repaint after allowing some drying time. With watercolors you pretty much get one shot and one shot only. Maybe next time I will try a portrait in watercolor for fun, but I digress. Anyway below are some images of the painting I am working on where you can see my process in action...
