APRIL PORTRAIT

I have started a new portrait that I will paint with acrylic. I believe the foundation  of a good portrait or realistic style painting is really in the drawing , be a pencil, charcoal or a paint brush itself.  Below is an  example of how I have started a new portrait. We will see where it goes from here next time.

JUST LAUNCHED A KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN

WORKS IN PROGRESS

I'm working on an abstract piece and a portrit. The portrait is a rather odd perspective piece of a friend. The angle is very odd so I chose it for a challenge. I think its 80-90% there so far. I just need to bring out the eyes more.

































 I like the abstract collage piece a lot bu I think it needs a bit more layering of colors. I sketched it first and then painted it. I didn't want to palette to be too loud,  but it still needs a little kick. I'll have to live with it a while longer and see what it needs.

STARTING A NEW PORTRAIT

Hi There. It's been quite a while since I've painted a portrait, even though I enjoy them very much.  I have always admired the work of Gerhard Richter because he appeared to flip flop from abstraction to realistic portraits. Likewise, I often find myself going from one style to another.  Whenever I create a portrait I prefer working from a  live model, usually someone I know,  but a good photo can be the next best thing. Below, I have started sketching my friend Sabrina Nelson who is also a wonderful artist. Here ,I have tried to draw in every shape I could see, hoping to go back in with paint and  brush in a similar fashion.  However, I am always open to the fact  this painting  may evolve from my original concept into something all it's own.  I will post a follow up in the near future of Sabrina's portrait  and raid more photos from different friends to create more portraits.
